Xi'ao town is located in the northern mountainous area of Longchuan County, on the Bank of the upper reaches of Dongjiang River, which belongs to Fengshuba reservoir rainfall collection area. It borders Shangping town in the East, Heping County in the west, Beiling town in Longchuan in the South and Tianjiu town in Dingnan County in Jiangxi Province in the north. It is 105 kilometers away from the county.

With a total area of 152.45 square kilometers, the town has 12 villages and 1 neighborhood committee, with a total population of 14119 (2017).

Maxiao highway is directly connected with Longding highway (Xinglong Village of Tianjiu town to Dingnan county), 105 km away from the county. Xi'ao town is a mountainous town with "nine mountains, half water and half farmland", with more mountains and less land. There are 236000 mu of mountain forest in the town, including 150000 mu of Maozhu mountain. The whole town has overlapping mountains, beautiful mountains and rivers. The boar mountain is 1300 meters high, ranking the second highest peak in the county. Climbing the Jinshi mountain, zhumeng mountain, mars mountain, Xianju cave and other peaks also gives people the feeling that "the surrounding area is like a golden plate, and the mountains are like pearls".

There are gold ore, iron ore, crystal ore, rare earth ore, silver ore, gneiss ore, tin iron ore, etc. It is also rich in water resources, with a development capacity of more than 10000 dry watts. It has developed 5000 kilowatts and built 12 hydropower stations, including 3 hydropower stations with a capacity of more than 1000 kilowatts. The installed capacity of changfengtan Hydropower Station under construction is 1200 kilowatts, and the government is preparing to build a wind power station.
