Beian township is located in the north of Mudanjiang City, bordering on the city. It is based on the production of vegetable and non-staple food, supported by township enterprises and developed in an all-round way.

It is based on the production of vegetable and non-staple food, supported by township enterprises and developed in an all-round way. The township has a total administrative area of 152 square kilometers, 12 administrative villages directly under the township, 6 units directly under the township and 10 enterprises directly under the township. The total number of households in the township is 5422, including 3990 middle agricultural households, with a total population of 18287 and 13517 middle agricultural talents. The cultivated land area is 14616 mu, and there are 5310 labors. It was once named as "civilized township" by Mudanjiang municipal Party committee and municipal government. There are 15 administrative villages in the township, including 1 provincial civilized village, 3 municipal civilized village pacesetters, 10 municipal civilized villages, 1 District civilized village, 2 municipal civilized units, 10 municipal civilized units and 8 District civilized units. In 1994, the township authorities won the title of "civilized unit pacesetter" at the municipal level.
The origin of the name
Bei'an township was named after the township government once stationed on Bei'an road. In March 1947, Beian township was under the jurisdiction of Beian district. Beian township was set up in 1956. In August 1958, it merged with Yanjiang Township and was renamed Hongqi people's commune. At the end of 1959, Hongqi commune was abolished and divided into Bei'an commune and Yanjiang commune. In August 1960, Bei'an commune was merged into the urban Aimin people's Commune and changed into Bei'an branch. In January 1962, Beian commune was restored. In April 1969, it was renamed red flag commune. In September 1970, it was renamed Bei'an commune. In April 1984, it was changed to Bei'an township.
