Zhongxing township is under the jurisdiction of Linkou county. Located in the middle of the county, the villages under its jurisdiction surround the county, which is a suburban township. It was originally under the jurisdiction of Linkou town. In August 1964, in order to reduce the size of the suburbs, nine production teams in the suburbs were separated and merged with three production teams of Longzhao commune to form Zhongxing commune. It was changed to Zhongxing Township in 1984.

In Zhongxing Township, there are undulating mountains and ravines, and the agricultural production conditions are unique. The total area of the township is 158.4 square kilometers, with 60000 mu of arable land. It mainly grows vegetables and grain, and produces Auricularia auricula. In 1992, the total output value of township enterprises was 40.62 million yuan. The township governs 12 villages including Tuanjie, Fulong, Hongsheng, Langhua, Liuhe, Xinghua, Dongfeng, Dongguan, qixingpao, Xinfa, Yongsheng and Zhenxing. At the end of 1992, the total population of the township was 16600, of which the Korean, Manchu and other ethnic minorities accounted for about 5%. The township government is located in Linkou town.
