Located in the northeast of Zhashui County, it is named after hongshigou. It is adjacent to jiujianfang township of hongyansi District in the East, Caoping Township in the south, Gaoqiao Township in the West and Hongxing Township in Lantian District in the north. It covers an area of 45 square kilometers. 500 households, 2086 people. Jurisdiction jiaoshuping, Shizi, Donggou, Wufang 4 administrative villages, 26 natural villages. The Party committee and township government of Hongshi township of Zhashui County are located in Shizi village, 63 kilometers away from Zhashui County, with a simple highway connecting Caoping.

Hongshi township is mainly agricultural, with 1584 mu of arable land and 62900 mu of forest. The main crops are corn, wheat, beans, potato, Cereals, walnut, lacquer oil.
There are supply and marketing cooperatives and health centers in Hongshi township. There are 1 Central Primary School and 7 primary schools.
Before 1955, Hongshi township was under the jurisdiction of Lantian County. In April 1956, it was under the jurisdiction of Zhashui County.
