Chengdong township is located in the east gate of the urban area. National highways 207 and 320 run through it. It governs three villages and three community neighborhood committees. It has a population of 11267 and a cultivated area of 1600 mu.

There are more than 100 private enterprises in the township, including Yangxi Chemical Industrial Zone, the only paper-making industrial zone in Shuangqing District, and Shehu ecological park, the only ecological park in the urban area. Over the past few years, the township has gradually formed three major agricultural bases by vigorously adjusting the agricultural industrial structure: Jintai community and Yangxi village's 800 Mu pollution-free vegetable base; Baihe Village and Hanmei village's herbal medicine planting base; and Jiaodong farm's pig breeding base. In 2003, the township level revenue reached 1.3272 million yuan. In 2002, it was awarded the national advanced unit of basic level militia reserve by the general staff and administration, the first prize of double civilization target management in Shuangqing District, and the advanced unit of comprehensive management of social security in 2003. The work of the township has maintained a good momentum of development and has great potential for development. Township Party committee and government team members keep pace with the times, explore and innovate, clarify the development ideas, formulate a five-year development plan, and strive to build Chengdong into a new town based on agriculture and supported by industry.
