Mingcheng town

Mingcheng Town, subordinate to Gaoming District, Foshan City, Guangdong Province, is located in the middle of Gaoming District. Guangtai Expressway and Pearl River Delta Ring Expressway meet in the area under its jurisdiction. Gaoming Avenue and hehe Avenue run through the whole territory in an east-west direction. It is an important channel connecting the Pearl River Delta and western Guangdong. It is also the hometown of revolutionary historical figures "three tans" (Tan Pingshan, Tan Zhitang and Tan Tiandu).

The total area of Mingcheng town is 183.41 square kilometers. As of June 2020, it has jurisdiction over one community and 13 villages. As of 2019, the resident population of 68 thousand people, of whom 53 thousand were registered residence, more than 10 thousand overseas Chinese, Hong Kong and Macao, were the famous overseas Chinese hometown in Guangdong.

Historical evolution

In the sixth year of Yuanding (111 BC) of the Western Han Dynasty, soldiers were set up here, which was called Gaoming Village (qingyugang, the town of Ming Dynasty).

In 1475, Gaoyao cangbu, Qingtai and other 24 cities were set up in the county, and the county governed qingyugang. In 1480, the city wall was built with stone bricks. The city wall opened four doors: Yinbin, Fucai, Yingen and Wanyue. The moat was dug outside, which was called Gaoming City, later referred to as Mingcheng. The Ming and Qing dynasties belong to Qingtai township of Gaoming county.

On October 19, 1949, Gaoming county was liberated and its people's government was set up in Mingcheng. It is located in the first district of Gaoming county.

In 1957, it was changed into a town around the city.

In the winter of 1958, Gaoming and Heshan counties merged into Gaohe county. The county government was set up in shaping Town, and Mingcheng town was reduced to township level town under the jurisdiction of Huancheng commune.

In 1958, Mingcheng commune was established.

In 1983, it was changed to Mingcheng district.

In 1987, Jianming town was established.

Mingcheng town is located in the west of Pearl River Delta and the middle of Gaoming District, between 112 ° 22 ′ - 112 ° 55 ′ E and 22 ° 38 ′ - 23 ° 01 ′ n. It is adjacent to Renhe and Hecheng streets of Yanghe town in the northeast, Gaoyao District of Zhaoqing City in the northwest, Yanghe town in the South and Genghe town in the West.
