Qianjin township is under the jurisdiction of Nenjiang County. Located in the southwest of the county, South Bank of Nenjiang River. The township government is 9 kilometers away from the county seat. After the victory of the Anti Japanese war in 1945, it belonged to the Second District of Nenjiang County. In May 1955, it was changed into the forward zone.

In March 1956, the township was divided into Wenzhi, Ziyi, Linjiang and tengkemuludaur townships. In March 1958, Ziyi township was merged into Wenzhi Township and tengkemudaor Township into Linjiang township; in September of the same year, Wenzhi, Linjiang and Changfu townships were merged to form Qianjin people's commune. Linjiang commune and Changfu commune were established in June 1960 and 1961 respectively. In May 1984, Qianjin commune was changed into Qianjin township. Qianjin Township, with a total area of 243.2 square kilometers and a cultivated area of 168000 mu, is one of the main wheat and soybean producing areas in the county. In 1992, the total output value of township enterprises was 10.18 million yuan. The township has jurisdiction over 13 villages, including Fanrong, Dongsheng, Zhenxiang, Qianjin, Xinhua, Lianhe, Jixiang, Yongsheng, Baosheng, Qingshi, Zhongyuan, Limin and Wenzhi. At the end of 1992, the total population of the township was 22600, of which Manchu, Daur, Hui, Mongolian and other ethnic minorities accounted for about 4%. Township government is located in Qianjin Village (formerly known as Guandi).
