The industrial economy in the region is developed, with forestry and hydropower generation as the leading industries and complete infrastructure construction. Hongshi town was approved as a pilot unit of comprehensive reform of "top ten towns" by the provincial government in 1995, and was designated as a pilot unit of small cities by Jilin Municipal Party committee and municipal government in February 2001. In 2004, it was rated as a national key town by six ministries and commissions. In 2005, Baishan lake and Hongshi Lake were successfully declared and approved as national forest parks. The process of urbanization is accelerating. In the construction of small towns, first, planning is the guide. In the past two years, the provincial planning and Design Institute has invested more than 500000 yuan to complete the overall planning for urban construction of Hongshi Town, the detailed planning for urban construction of Hongshi Town, and the medium and long term tourism development planning of Hongshi town.
