Xiangyang town is located 4.5km south of Tongjiang City, at the junction of Leye and Qinghe townships. Tongsan highway passes through the west of the township, and Songhua River flows through the west of the township. The township governs 10 administrative villages and 16 natural villages with a total population of 9275 (including 8173 agricultural population). The cultivated land is 234700 mu, the rural area is 154.5 square kilometers, and the whole township is flat, which is a typical plain agricultural township.

Originally under the jurisdiction of Tongjiang commune. In June 1966, Xiangyang commune was established. It was changed to Xiangyang Township in 1984. Evolution of administrative districts

"Xiangyang" was named in 1910, when the local rich family Jinshui and Zhang Guowei set up Datong deken company. In 1966, the people's commune was established, and in 1984, the people's commune was cancelled and renamed Xiangyang Township. On March 29, 2005, the people's Government of Heilongjiang Province (No. 29, Heimin District) approved that Liming Village (excluding Friendship Village), Tongxing Village (including prospect Village) and Tongfu village under the jurisdiction of former Qianwei township should be put under the jurisdiction of Xiangyang Township.
