Xuetian township is located in the northwest of Nehe City, Heilongjiang Province. The whole terrain is high in the north and low in the south.

Xuetian township is under the jurisdiction of Nehe City, Heilongjiang Province. It is located in the northwest of the city, on the East Bank of Nenjiang River, near Laolai town in the East, and across the river from Molidawa Daur Autonomous Banner of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region in the West. The township government is 22 kilometers away from the city. the name of Xuetian Township comes from the name of Xuetian village. Xuetian village, formerly known as "Xuetian bureau". According to the new Nehe county annals, "in 1914, the Xuetian Bureau of Heilongjiang Province moved here from Ganjingzi, so it is called Xuetian Bureau.". After 1917, this area was under the jurisdiction of the first district and the Fourth District of Nehe county. During the period of northeast occupied by the Japanese, it was divided into Qiwen village and Dahe village. After the victory of the Anti Japanese war in 1945, the third district was set up at the end of 1946 and changed to Xuetian District in May 1955. In April 1956, the township was divided into four townships: Qinglong, Xuetian, Gongnong, Qinghe. In September 1958, four townships were merged to form lighthouse people's commune, which was changed into Xuetian commune in March of the next year. In June 1961, the northern area of Xuetian commune was set up as Qinghe commune. In April 1984, Xuetian commune was changed into Xuetian township.

With a total area of 232 square kilometers and a cultivated area of 237000 mu, the township is one of the main grain and soybean producing areas in Nehe city. The income from diversified operation accounts for more than 20% of the total agricultural income. In 1992, the total output value of township enterprises was 20.61 million yuan.
