Alashan Economic Development Zone in Inner Mongolia, which is based on WUSITAI Town, was established in August 1997. On January 9, 2002, it was approved as an autonomous regional development zone by the people's Government of the autonomous region. On March 6, 2006, it was approved and named as Alashan Economic Development Zone in Inner Mongolia by the national development and Reform Commission. the development zone has basically formed the overall layout framework of "three parks and one district" for Salt Chemical Industrial Park, coal chemical industrial park, characteristic Steel Industrial Park and livable city, becoming one of the 20 provincial key development zones in the autonomous region. In 2006, the development zone was listed as the circular economy demonstration zone and eco industrial park demonstration site.
