The ancient town is located in the southeast of Shanyin County, 15 kilometers away from the county seat. It is an ancient town of Shuozhou. It was built at the end of the Yuan Dynasty. Before 1937, it was the governance of Shanyin County in the Ming, Qing and Republic of China. The town is about 13 kilometers long from east to west and 12 kilometers wide from north to south, covering an area of 166.81 square kilometers and 116000 mu of cultivated land. It has jurisdiction over 26 administrative villages with a permanent population of 13839 (2017). The ancient town has a long history, convenient transportation, developed agriculture and animal husbandry, and beautiful ecological environment. It is one of the 100 small towns supported by the provincial government during the 11th Five Year Plan period.
