Ancient town

The ancient town is under the jurisdiction of Pidu District, Chengdu City, Sichuan Province. It is located in the northwest of Chengdu City. Shaxi line and Pipeng highway run through the whole area.

The town covers an area of 17.2 square kilometers, with 16038 mu of arable land and 26246 permanent residents (2017)

Now the town system has been abolished and sandaoyan town has been merged into sandaoyan town.

Evolution of organizational system

Before 1941, there was no town in the ancient city. The Qing Dynasty. In the early Republic of China, the ancient city was under the jurisdiction of sandaoyan township (District). In 1941, the township government was set up after the separation of sandaoyan. Because there is an ancient city site near the township government, it is named ancient city and countryside. In 1992, Gucheng Township and sandaoyan Township were merged into sandaoyan town. In October 1998, it was designated from sandaoyan town to restore Gucheng township. In June 2001, the ancient town was transformed into a township. In 2019, Gucheng town will be abolished and sandaoyan town will be merged, which will be called sandaoyan town.

It is adjacent to Xindu District in the East, Liji town across the river in the north, sandaoyan town in Pixian County in the South and Tangyuan town in Pixian County in the West.

There are many places of interest and historic sites in the ancient towns, but there are still some relics and many moving legends.

1. The ancient city site is a municipal cultural relic protection unit in Chengdu. Located in the north of the town, 300 meters away from the town, the city que is still debatable, the city foundation still exists, and the city ridge is 2-5 meters high and about 10 meters wide. In the early Qing Dynasty, farmers dug a stone tablet with the word "Mazhen" on it. In 1780, they excavated ancient burial objects. In the early years of the Republic of China, there was a stone mast on the side of the city ridge, engraved with the words "ancient city of pre Han Dynasty".

In 1935, the special forces of Sichuan army built blockhouses and dug a lot of city ridges to get bricks, mostly Han bricks, and dug out tile coffins, copper hats, five beads of copper coins and other objects. According to the records of ancient county annals of Pixian and the research of Sichuan Provincial Museum of history and cultural relics, it is determined as the ancient city of Pixian built by Zhang Yi of the state of Qin during the Warring States period. From October 1997 to January 1998, the cultural relics and Archaeology team of Sichuan province carried out deep excavation and exploration, and confirmed that it was a city in the late Neolithic Age (before summer), more than 4000 years ago, 1000 years earlier than Sanxingdui in Guanghan.

2. Ma Street is now the seat of the town people's government. It is said that during the Three Kingdoms period, Zhuge Liang, the Prime Minister of Shu Han Dynasty, ordered Wei yantun, the general, to herd horses. When the troops were stationed to train horses, the masses gathered around and gathered together to learn. After a long time, it became a street called Zhima street. Later, it gradually became a market town, named Guma town. With the development of history, most of the ancient buildings have disappeared, with only a small number of permanent waste walls and sporadic bricks and tiles from the Qin and Han Dynasties, leaving many historical stories.

3. The tomb of the emperor is said to be the tomb of LV Buwei, the Prime Minister of the state of Qin at the end of the Warring States period. Located in the east of the ancient city, LV Buwei's yiguanzhong is about 1km away from Majie street. The cemetery is about 100m wide and more than Zhang high. It has disappeared because of brick burning and soil borrowing.

4. Tiebao mountain, also known as tiemen. Located in the south of the ancient city, outside the city ridge. It is made of cobblestones, which is not easy to be reclaimed and has been preserved to this day. In the early days, an iron cabinet and an iron threshold were excavated here, hence the name.

5. Yinghua Temple: it is said that it is the refuge of Liu Xiu and no longer exists.
