Chengdong town belongs to Hai'an City, Nantong City, Jiangsu Province. It is located in the east of Hai'an. It is a rare "one city, two towns" in county-level cities. With a total population of 136816 (2017) and a total area of 170.93 square kilometers (2017), it is now a national Hai'an Economic and Technological Development Zone.

In November 2017, Chengdong town was awarded the fifth national civilized village. In October 2019, Chengdong town was selected as one of the "Top 1000 towns with comprehensive strength in China in 2019". In September 2020, Chengdong town was selected as "top 100 towns in China in 2019", ranking 54th.

Chengdong town is one of the "one city and two towns" in Hai'an city. Two national highways 204 and 328, two railways Xinchang and Ningqi, two canals Tongyang and tongcha, two coastal and Haili expressways meet here respectively. The completion and opening of Sutong bridge has integrated the town into the "two-hour economic circle" of Shanghai.

Chengdong town is a civilized town in Jiangsu Province and a star town in Hai'an County. In 2006, Nantong was one of the "top ten" towns for export-oriented agriculture, the "top ten" towns for afforestation, and the first town for efficient agricultural scale.

On September 22, 2011, Jiangsu provincial government agreed to cancel Chengdong town and Xichang town of Hai'an County in the reply on adjusting some administrative divisions of Hai'an County, and merge the areas under the jurisdiction of former Chengdong town and Xichang town to establish a new Chengdong town. The town government is located at No. 25, Yingbin Road, chengdongji town. After the adjustment of administrative divisions, Chengdong town has an administrative area of 170.8 square kilometers, a population of 135000, and jurisdiction over two neighborhood committees and 31 village committees.
