Taiping Town

Taiping Town, Sihong County, Jiangsu Province, is located on the Bank of Hongze Lake, about 35 kilometers away from Sihong County. It is an agricultural township. Due to economic development, since 2000, many farmers have transformed to aquaculture, livestock breeding and other directions. The town government has attracted investment. By the beginning of 2014, the town has a large number of residential areas and is fully moving towards a modern society.

On July 2, 2020, the people's Government of Jiangsu Province decided to abolish Taiping town.

General situation

Taiping town is located 35.20 kilometers east of Sihong County. It is adjacent to Chengzi Lake in the East, market town in the north, Hongze farm and Longji town in the southwest and south. The total area is 72.51 square kilometers (2017), with 3617.6 hectares of arable land, 2000 hectares of water area and 10.2 kilometers of lake shoreline.

It has 15 administrative villages, including 3 neighborhood committees and 2 farms, with a total of 26693 people (in 2017).

Historical evolution

Before the founding of the people's Republic of China, the township was under the jurisdiction of Siyang and Sixian counties. In 1941, with the establishment of the Anti Japanese Democratic base in Huaibei, Taiping Township was established, which belonged to Siyang County in Huaibei. After the establishment of Sihong County in 1949, Taiping Township was set up and put under the jurisdiction of Sihong County. In 1958, it was merged with Longji to form Longji people's commune. In 1962, it was separated and changed into Taiping commune. In August 2000, the township was set up.

On July 2, 2020, the people's Government of Jiangsu Province decided to abolish Taiping town.
