Kashi Town, subordinate to Yining County, Yili Kazak Autonomous Prefecture, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, is located in the southeast of Yining County, adjacent to Keling township of nilek County in the East, facing Gongliu County across the Yili River in the south, samuyuzi Township in the West and nilek County in the north, with a total administrative area of 148.21 square kilometers.

Kashi town originally belonged to Gongliu County; in 1946, it belonged to Yining County; in 1984, Kashi township was built. On June 7, 2018, Kashi town was established. By the end of 2018, the number of registered residence in Kashi town was 26885. In 2019, Kashi town has 8 administrative villages.

History of construction

Kashi town was originally Gongliu county.

In the 35th year of the Republic of China (1946), it was put under the management of Yining County, where there were 1000 heads of households.

In 1950, it successively belonged to 14 districts, 5 districts and 6 districts.

In 1958, the October commune was established to administer samuzi and Kashi townships.

In 1978, it was renamed Kashgar commune.

In 1980, samuzi commune was established.

In 1984, the commune was withdrawn and Kashi township was built.

On June 7, 2018, the people's Government of the autonomous region agreed to abolish the organizational system of Kashi Township in Yining County and establish Kashi town.
