History of construction

It was called Qixia in Han Dynasty and an'erxia in Song Dynasty, and Zhonghong Township in 1938.

In 1949, Xiaoxia township was set up, which was under the jurisdiction of Huangzhong County.

In 1956, it was under the jurisdiction of Xining city and the Eastern District of the city.

In 1958, it was incorporated into Xianfeng commune and later changed into Ping'an commune.

In 1962, it returned to Huangzhong County.

In 1978, it was assigned to Ping'an County.

In 1984, Xiaoxia township was restored.

In August 2006, the township was removed to build a town.
