Meiyu township was established in 1960, the commune was changed in 1970, and the township was restored in 1984.

It is located in the northwest of Zuogong County, 95 kilometers away from the county, adjacent to tiantuo town in the southeast and Bangda town in Basu County in the West.

The township has a land area of 1284.15 square kilometers and a population of 4330 (2017).

It has 12 village committees, namely Meiyu village, Jiba village, chaxi village, Kaza village, rixue village, Erlong village, Xixue village, Benyi village, UBI village, ranzhong village, xuematong village and xieku village.

It is a semi agricultural and semi pastoral Township, planting highland barley, wheat and rape, and Grazing Yak, cattle, goats and sheep.

Infrastructure construction

In the first half of 2016, xieku village, Meiyu Township, Zuogong County started the relocation project, which is the first relocation site in Zuogong county. A total of 260 people from 44 households were relocated, of which 220 people from 38 households were poor and 40 people from 6 households were relocated simultaneously. by the end of 2017, 158 poor households in Meiyu township of Zuogong county were relocated from Dashanli to xieku village, Meiyu Township, beside National Highway 318. in June 2018, the supporting industrial park of xieku village, Meiyu Township, Zuogong county is under construction. There are five sub projects in the industrial park, including green feed processing plant, organic fertilizer processing plant, yak short-term fattening base, Mianyang short-term fattening base and agricultural and livestock products exchange center.

Medical and health services

In September 2014, with the support of the women's Federation of Zuogong County, doctors from the health service center of Zuogong county and the General Hospital of the air force went to Guoguo temple and baga temple in Meiyu township to carry out medical and drug delivery activities. Nearly 100 people participated in the activities and distributed all kinds of drugs worth 3400 yuan. in September 2017, Xiamen Tibetan aid doctors went to Meiyu township to carry out the screening and prevention of echinococcosis, which lasted for four days.

Ecological and environmental protection

In June 2018, Meiyu Township organized more than 40 family cadres, village "two committees", water managers and farmers and herdsmen to clean up and renovate the main rivers in the area, such as Yuqu River and Kaiqu River, and strive to create an ecological environment of "clear water and beautiful scenery" in Meiyu township.

Spiritual civilization construction

In March 2017, the "3.28" million Serf Liberation Day was held in Meiyu Township and villages. The activities included: Comparative Education between old and new Tibet, national flag raising ceremony, and various literary and artistic activities. on June 12, 2017, Meiyu Township held a speech contest of "my village story" to show the good spirit of village cadres.
