Historical evolution

Before liberation, Xiazhuang town was called "longrun township". After the founding of the people's Republic of China, the eighth district government of Chengnan district was established in 1950. In 1953, it belonged to Xiangyun third district. In 1958, it was called Weixin township. In the same year, Xiazhuang people's commune was established. In 1960, it was changed into Xiazhuang district. In 1969, it was changed into Xiazhuang commune. In 1984, it was changed into Xiazhuang district. In 1987, it was changed into Xiazhuang township. In 1999, it was changed into Xiazhuang town.
