Xugou town

Xugou is a town in Qingxu County, Taiyuan City, Shanxi Province. It is 21 kilometers east of the county, adjacent to Jiyi Township in the East, Taigu County in the south, Wangda and Xigu Township in the West and Wangda Township in the north. It is about 8 kilometers wide from east to west and 10.7 kilometers long from south to north, with a total area of 84.41 square kilometers, of which the town (including 7 neighborhoods) covers an area of 2 square kilometers. The resident population was 48000 (2017).

Xugou town was selected into the list of demonstration construction of strong agricultural towns in 2018.

The town used to be the residence of Xugou county (the political, economic and cultural radiation center of Hedong region). In July 1952, Qingyuan County and Xugou county were merged into Qingxu County. Xugou county was set up as the Sixth District, which was later changed into town and township (1953-1958). In 1958, it was the residence of Dongfeng commune (including three townships of Xugou, Wangda and Jiyi, 23 senior agricultural production cooperatives and 59 natural villages). In 1959, Xugou and Jiyi townships were transformed into Xugou commune, with 41 administrative areas and 44 natural villages under its jurisdiction. In 1961, it was divided into Xugou and Jiyi communes. Xugou commune governs 23 administrative areas and 24 natural villages. It was renamed Xugou town in 1984. It merged with Gaohua Township in 2001.

It is a famous ancient town in the three Jin Dynasty, the economic, cultural and commercial development center of Hedong area in Qingxu County, and the second largest town in Qingxu County after the county seat. Xugou set up a county in the year of Jin Dading, and merged with Qingyuan County to form Qingxu County in 1952. At present, the town covers an area of 84.41 square kilometers, with 28 administrative villages, a community neighborhood committee and a permanent population of 48000 (2017); the town is composed of 7 neighborhoods, covering an area of 4 square kilometers.

The town is 35 kilometers away from Taiyuan, the capital of the province. The main traffic arteries at the provincial level are Dayun Road, xutai Road, Dongqing road and Xiaoyang Road, which are connected with the urban area. They run through the north and south, with smooth traffic from east to west and convenient transportation.

Xugou's long history has left a prosperous economy and splendid culture.
