Gaoniang town is located in the south of Tianzhu County, 12.5km away from the county seat. It is adjacent to Benchu town in the East, Jinping County in the south, Shidong town in the West and Fengcheng town in the north. The town government is on the 202 provincial road.

The town has 35 administrative villages, a neighborhood committee, 406 villager groups, 7100 households and a total population of 30823, of which the Dong population accounts for 99.8%. The land area of the whole town is 248.86 square kilometers. The topography is dominated by low, middle and low mountains, hills and valleys. The topography fluctuates greatly.
