Dingxin Township, Dafang County, Guizhou Province, is located in the southwest of Dafang County, about 45 km away from Dafang County, 17 km long from east to west and 13 km wide from north to south. It is 1100-2050 m above sea level and 950-1200 mm in annual precipitation, belonging to subtropical humid monsoon climate. Dingxin township is adjacent to Machang town in the East, Nayong County across guazhong River in the south, Maochang town in the West and Lutang Township in the north.

Historical evolution

Name and origin

Originally named yiyiyipojiao, it was once named xiaolongchang. In the past, there were three surnames in the Western District: Zhou from Niuchang, Li from Maochang, and Wang from Pojiao. Because Wang was a rising star, he changed his name to Dingxin.

Evolution of administrative districts

In September 1950, it belonged to four districts.

In April 1953, Dingxin and Shuitang were merged into Dingxin township.

In September 1958, Dingxin commune was established, and in November, the administrative area was changed.

In 1984, Dingxin commune was transformed into a town.

In December 1991, Dingxin Township, changchong Township and Zeji Township were merged into Dingxin Yi and Miao township.

Ethnic population

With a total population of more than 38200, there are 11 ethnic groups, including Han, Miao, Yi, Chuanqing, Mongolia, Cai, Zhuang, Bai, Buyi, Jing and Gelao, of which 29066 are ethnic minorities, accounting for 76% of the total population of the township.
