Meiyu town

Meiyu town belongs to Yanyuan County, Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province. It is located on the southeast edge of the Qinghai Tibet Plateau and the West Bank of the lower reaches of the Yalong River. It covers an area of 161.45 square kilometers and has a population of 26348 (2017). The territory has beautiful scenery, rich products, pleasant climate and honest folk customs. In history, it once flourished as the "Southern Silk Road", but now it is famous for the benefits of salt and iron, the victory of mountains and rivers, and the marriage customs of the Mosuo people in Lugu Lake, known as the mysterious "daughter country".

On June 12, 2020, Sichuan Provincial People's Government approved Liangshan Prefecture to adjust the administrative divisions of some towns and townships in Yanyuan County and other five counties (cfgm [2020] No. 7): the administrative areas of Hongyanzi village in Boda Township and liushuwan village in xiahai Township were put under the jurisdiction of Meiyu Town, and the people's Government of Meiyu town was located at No. 15, Government Street, Meiyu community.

Meiyu township was established in 1951 and merged with Xinglong Township in 1958 to form Feiyue commune. Meiyu commune was established in 1961, township was restored in 1984, and town was established in 1992.

Yanmu and yanzuo highways cross the town.
