Quening township is located 40 kilometers east of Jianyang City, bordering Liangshui Township and Yongquan Town of Lezhi county in the East, Shijia town in the south, Anle Township in the west, Hefeng town and Yunlong Town in the north. The township covers an area of 30.64 square kilometers.

Quening township is a shallow hill landform with an average altitude of 417.5 meters. The relative height difference is 55 meters, 8.1 kilometers long from north to South and 7.3 kilometers wide from east to west. The terrain in the territory is high in the northeast and low in the southwest, with undulating hills. Two small reservoirs, Qingshui and Shuanghe, are built in the township. Suoxi river flows north through Anqing and Xin'an villages and into Anle township. Caizigou, gumuzui and Baiping streams originate in the township and flow out of the country.

Quening Township belongs to subtropical humid monsoon climate type. The annual average temperature is 16.5 ℃, the annual average rainfall is 800 mm, and the annual average frost free period is 300 days, which is suitable for the reproduction and growth of a variety of organisms.

The township governs 14 administrative villages and one town. The total population is 9693 (2017). Quening Township now has 22.8 hectares of market land in urban area, one middle school, one central primary school, one health center and one water station. The township government is harmonious, the products are rich, the economy is developing, the trade is active, and the society is stable.

In December 2019, Chengdu issued the reply to the request for instructions on the adjustment of administrative divisions of some townships (streets) in 15 districts (cities) and counties including Longquanyi District. Anle Township and quening Township were cancelled, and the administrative areas of former Anle Township and quening Township were put under the jurisdiction of Shijia town. The people's Government of Shijia town was stationed at No. 132, shile road.
