Historical evolution

Jishui town is famous for Jishui polder. Jishuiwei was built in the late Ming Dynasty and early Qing Dynasty. It was originally named Jishui because of the rapidity of jiuzhoujiang river.

In the reign of Emperor Guangxu of Qing Dynasty (1875-1908), jishuiwei was changed to jishuiwei because of its bad meaning.

Before the founding of the people's Republic of China, it belonged to the first district.
