Wutang town

Wutang town is located in the middle of Suixi County, Zhanjiang City, Guangdong Province. It is adjacent to state-owned Qianjin farm in the East, Chengyue town in the south, Beipo town in the West and Yanggan town in the north. It is 28 kilometers away from Suixi County and 36 kilometers away from Zhanjiang City. The total area is 49.7 square kilometers. There are 5 village committees, 45 natural villages and 17152 people in the town (2017). The town has perfect infrastructure, rich characteristic agriculture and good economic condition.

History of construction

Wutang town (polder) was formed in 1723 A.D. (Yongzheng period of the Qing Dynasty). It was named wunitang because most of its soil was black and ponds were scattered all over the territory. In 589 ad (the 18th year of kaihuang of Sui Dynasty), the town set up a county government, named Shenchuan county. The county was located in Shenchuan village under the jurisdiction of Wutang Town, which lasted for more than 30 years. In 1949, it belonged to the Fourth District of Suixi Chengyue; in 1959, it established a small commune; in 1962, it merged with Chengyue to form a people's commune; in 1979, it was separated from Chengyue commune to establish Wutang commune; in 1983, it was withdrawn to build the district; in 1987, it was withdrawn to build Wutang town.
