Shekou Street
Shekou street, belonging to Nanshan District of Shenzhen City, is located at the southeast end of Nantou Peninsula, adjacent to Shenzhen Bay in the East, across the sea from Yuen Long of Hong Kong, and adjacent to merchants and Yuehai streets in the West and North, with a total area of 15.94 square kilometers. As of 2017, the residents of Shekou street had 167 thousand permanent residents, of whom 63 thousand and 200 were registered residence. As of June 2020, Shekou street has 13 communities under its jurisdiction.

Historical evolution
In the Qing Dynasty, Shekou area was under the jurisdiction of Dian Shi Guan of Xin'an County, including Wanxia village and Lingding village. During the period of the Republic of China, the area first belonged to Wanxia Township, the first district of Bao'an County, then to Nanxia Township, the first district, and then to Nantou town, the first district. Before the founding of the people's Republic of China, it belonged to Nanping Township, the first district.
In October 1949, when the people's Republic of China was founded, it belonged to Nanping people's Union Township of Liancheng, Baoan County, and later changed to Nantou Union Township.
On April 18, 1950, Neilingding Island was liberated. In 1951, it belonged to Xinmin Township. In January 1953, Bao'an county took Xihai, Donghai, Nantou and Yantian as experimental areas to carry out the fishermen's democratic reform movement and prepare for the establishment of fishermen's township government. In July, Shekou township (fishermen township) was established to administer Lingding island and Dachan island in Shekou Village (Wei Town). In this year, Shekou area belongs to Shekou Township and Xinmin Township, the Fifth District. In October 1956, it belongs to Nanshan Township, Shekou Township, Nantou district. In July 1958, Shekou township was changed to Shekou town to strengthen fishery production. In September this year, the people's commune system of "integration of government and society" was implemented, and the region belongs to Shekou production management zone of Chaoying commune. In April 1959, Xihai (Shekou fisheries) commune was established. It is located in Dabanqiao, Nantou, and works with the County Fisheries Department.
In July 1961, Xihai (Shekou fisheries) commune was renamed Shekou commune, and the commune was located in shekouwei town. Shekou belongs to Shekou commune and Nantou commune of Nantou district. In January 1963, Baoan County adjusted its second administrative division.
In 1970, the jurisdiction of the commune was adjusted. The wanxiadazhang brigade of Nantou commune was under the jurisdiction of Shekou commune, the Daxin brigade and beitouda brigade of Shekou commune were under the jurisdiction of Nantou commune, and the Xixiang brigade was under the jurisdiction of Xixiang commune. In May 1977, the south water brigade separated from the Wanxia brigade. In January 1979, Shekou commune was subordinate to Nantou District of Shenzhen city. At the beginning of the year, Shekou commune set aside a land area of 2.14 square kilometers to build Shekou Industrial Zone of China Merchants Group.
In August 1981, Shekou commune was transferred to Luohu District of Shenzhen city. In May 1982, Shekou commune was renamed Shekou office, which was established since then. In September 1983, it was under the jurisdiction of Nantou District, Shenzhen city. In August 1984, Shekou office was renamed Shekou Town, which belongs to Shekou District of Shenzhen city.
In September 1990, Nanshan District was established. Shekou town was renamed Shekou street, belonging to Nanshan District of Shenzhen city.

In April 1959, Xihai (Shekou aquatic products) commune was under the jurisdiction of Shajing (oyster industry), Xixiang (oyster industry), Dachan Island, Neilingding Island, Shekou first brigade, Shekou second brigade, Haiwan oyster industry brigade, Daxin, Houhai, Beitou and yuruan. Shekou belongs to Xihai (Shekou aquatic products) commune and Toushe commune.
In January 1963, Shekou commune had 17 production teams under its jurisdiction, including Xixiang Group, Beitou group, Daxin group, Houhai group, Haiwan group, fishery group 1, fishery group 2, Dachan group and state-owned Houhai farm.
In 1970, Shekou belonged to Shekou commune, which was under the jurisdiction of Bao'an county. There were Wanxia group, Houhai group, fishery group 1, fishery group 2, Haiwan group and Dachan group.
When the Shekou office was established in May 1982, it was under the jurisdiction of the Wanxia brigade, the nanshai brigade, the first fishery brigade, the second fishery brigade, the Houhai brigade, the Haiwan brigade and the Dachan brigade.
In November 1983, the brigade was changed into a village, with the neighborhood committees of Yuyi village, Yuer village, Wanxia village, nanshai village, Dachan village, Houhai village, Haiwan village and Haibin Street (the neighborhood committee was not established).
In August 1984, Shekou office was renamed Shekou town (administrative organs set up offices), and the villages under its jurisdiction remained unchanged.
In February 1991, Houhai village was designated Guihai street, and Shekou Street governs six villages.
In September 1992, Yuyi village, Yuer village, nanshai village, Wanxia village, Haiwan village and Dachan village were changed to neighborhood committees, among which Wanxia village was changed to Wanxia neighborhood committee.
In November 1995, Wai Tsai West neighborhood committee and Haibin neighborhood committee were set up.
In December 1998, the original eight neighborhood committees were adjusted and six new neighborhood committees were established: Wanxia neighborhood committee, Haiwan neighborhood committee, Yuyi neighborhood committee, Yuer neighborhood committee, nanshai neighborhood committee, Haibin neighborhood committee, Dachan neighborhood committee, weizixi neighborhood committee, dongjiaotou neighborhood committee, leiling neighborhood committee, Haichang neighborhood committee, Huayang neighborhood committee, Linyuan neighborhood committee and rongcun neighborhood committee.
In October 2001, the neighborhood committees were changed into communities, and the 14 neighborhood committees in Shekou street were changed into 10 communities.
In 2004, Shekou Street governed 11 communities including dongjiaotou, Wanxia, Haiwan, Yuyi, Yuer, Haibin, Haichang, nanshai, Dachan, leiling and Neilingding Island.
In 2010, Shekou Street governed 12 communities including dongjiaotou, Wanxia, Haiwan, Yuyi, Yuer, Haibin, Haichang, nanshai, Dachan, Weizi, leiling and neilingdingdao.

In 1957, Shekou cultural station of Bao'an county was established, which is subordinate to Bao'an cultural center, covering an area of 80 square meters. In 1964, it was renamed Shekou commune cultural station, with a collection of more than 2000 books and an area of 250 square meters. It has a reading room for books, newspapers and periodicals, and organizes Festival cultural activities. In 1985, Shekou commune cultural station was renamed Shekou district cultural station of Shenzhen City, which is managed by Shekou Town Office, covering an area of 500 square meters. In 1991, Shekou theater, the first theater in Shekou street, was built. It is a comprehensive cultural activity venue integrating conference, performance and projection, with a total investment of nearly 8 million yuan.
