Changtanhe Township, also known as Changtanhe Dong Township, is a minority Township under the jurisdiction of Xuanen County, Enshi Prefecture, Hubei Province. It is located in the northeast of Xuanen County, bordering chunmuying Township in the East, shadaogou town in the south, Zhushan Town and Gaoluo Township in the west, and Wanzhai Township and Enshi City in the north. It covers an area of 430 square kilometers, governs 39 villages and 361 villager groups, with a total population of 38000. There are six ethnic minorities, including Dong, Tujia, Miao and Zhuang. Dong has a population of 19000, accounting for 51.3%
In the Yuan Dynasty, the Dong nationality township of Changtanhe belonged to the fifth Route Army and people's Government of Dongxiang. In the Ming Dynasty, it was under the jurisdiction of the pacification Department of Dongxiang. After the first year of Qianlong (1736 AD), it belonged to dongxiangli of Xuanen county. In November 1949, it was under the jurisdiction of Shichang district. In 1953, Changtanhe district was set up. March 1951 belongs to the third district. In October 1958, the county implemented the people's commune system, renamed Dongfanghong people's commune. In January 1959, it was renamed Changtan people's commune. In 1984, the system of people's commune, management area, production brigade and production team was abolished, and the system of District, township, village and group was set up. The three people's communes of Changtanhe, Huikou and zhongzhonghe were abolished, and the Changtanhe district was merged and established. The original management district was changed into township (town), which governs 11 townships including Changtan Town, zhongzhonghe Township, dawuolong Township, Nuoxi Township, Huikou Township, kucaoping Township and ximaping township. In July 1986, Huikou Dong township (formerly under the jurisdiction of Huikou township) was established with the approval of the provincial people's government. in October 1995, with the approval of the State Party committee and the state government, Changtan river was divided into Changtan River District and Huikou district. Changtanhe District governs Changtanhe Town, zhongzhonghe Township, dawuolong Township, Nuoxi Township and Dongxiang township. Huikou District governs Huikou Dong Township and ximaping township. in December 1996, with the approval of the provincial government, the original township (town) was renamed as the management area under the jurisdiction of the township. Huikou district was renamed Huikou Dong Township, with jurisdiction over Huikou and ximaping two management areas, Changtanhe district was renamed Changtanhe Township, with jurisdiction over Changtan, Dongxiang, Nuoxi, Zhonghe and dawulong five management areas. in January 1997, with the approval of the provincial government, the three management areas of Zhonghe, dawoolong and Nuoxi of Changtan River were set up as Zhonghe town. In March 2001, with the approval of the provincial government, Changtanhe Township, Huikou Dong Township and zhongzhonghe town were merged to form Changtanhe Dong township.
