Alaying town is located in the west of Fenghuang County, 24 kilometers away from the county. The town governs 15 administrative villages and 3 communities with 23782 people (in 2017), with 26716 mu of cultivated land, including 23270 mu of paddy field, 3446 mu of dry soil, and 18000 mu of paddy field with drought and flood. The town has a flat terrain, fertile land and excellent geographical position. The auspicious river passes through the town. Fengda secondary highway and S308 provincial road run through the town. Tongren station of Chongqing Huaihua railway is only 22 km away from the town, and Fenghuang Tongren airport is only 5 km away from the town.

Historical evolution

Alaying town was named "yalaying" before the founding of the people's Republic of China. After the founding of the people's Republic, it was renamed "Heping Town". In the 1980s, it was renamed "ala township". In 2005, it was merged with the original Huanghe township to become "alaying town", covering an area of 76.14 square kilometers (2017).
