Dagaoping Miao Township, Tongdao Autonomous County, Huaihua City, Hunan Province is located in the southwest of Tongdao Dong Autonomous County, adjacent to yatunbu town in the East and Xianxi town in the north. Township government in underground longzhai half Chonglong Li, 73 kilometers away from the county. The township covers an area of 27.9 square kilometers, including 2424 mu of arable land (2330 mu of paddy field), 41874 mu of mountainous area and 27231 mu of forest area.

Evolution and transportation

Dagaoping Miao township was founded in October 1955. It now governs four administrative villages, namely dagaoping, longzhaitang, Huangbai and di. There are 24 villager groups, 636 households and 3011 people. The minority population is 2769, accounting for 93% of the total population, of which 2749 are Miao, accounting for 91.3%. Before 1985, farmers' means of production and living were carried on their shoulders. In 1988, a forest road 13 kilometers from yatunbu town to dagaoping township government was built; in 1994, a four grade rural road with broken ends was built from dagaoping township government to Boyang town and Dupo Township, basically solving the problem of inconvenient transportation. In 1990, there were 2 agricultural vehicles and 1 tractor. there is a custom of catching up with "big fog beam" in the countryside in March of the lunar calendar every year.

Woodland resources

Dagaoping Miao township has 41876 Mu mountain area. Since 1985, a total of 12957 Mu has been planted, including 21 timber forest bases, 11112 mu, 15 economic forest bases, 857 mu (266 mu of citrus, 139 mu of chestnut, Naili, 400 mu of sweet peach, 80 mu of Ginkgo), 1482 Mu of Phyllostachys pubescens forest, 5440 mu of closed forest. The existing forest area is 27425 mu, and the standing stock is 6174 cubic meters. In 1996, the total agricultural output value was 1.32 million yuan, and the per capita net income of farmers in the township was 353 yuan, a net increase of 284 yuan compared with 69 yuan in 1985. The main agricultural production is rice, with a total annual grain output of 795 tons. The main agricultural and forestry by-products are oranges, chestnuts, etc. the main animal husbandry products are pigs, cattle, sheep, and the main specialty products are bamboo shoots, tobacco leaves, etc.

Economic development, education and health

In 1996, the total revenue of the township was 116450 yuan, including 34800 yuan of industrial and commercial tax, 29600 yuan of agricultural specialty tax, 32050 yuan of agricultural tax, and 20000 yuan of extra budgetary revenue, a net increase of 107550 yuan compared with 8900 yuan in 1985.

Education and health:

There are 1 Central Primary School and 6 Village Primary Schools in the township, with 537 students and 26 teachers, including 12 private teachers and 5 substitute teachers. The township health center has two medical staff and three beds. The family planning rate is 100%. Local goiter has been prevented and treated.
