Yanqiao Township and nanmuping Township were agreed to withdraw the township and build a town. Nanmuping town governs 13 villages with a total area of 94 square kilometers (2017) and a total population of 11288 people (2017). The town people's government is located in nanmuping (the former residence of nanmuping Township People's Government).

Reply of Hunan Provincial Department of Civil Affairs on Approving the adjustment plan of township division in Zhijiang Dong Autonomous County

Huaihua Municipal People's Government:

We have received your request for instructions on the adjustment of administrative divisions of towns and townships in Zhijiang Dong Autonomous County (Huai Zheng [2015] No. 96). In accordance with the provisions of Articles 5, 7 and 8 of the State Council's "provisions on the administration of administrative divisions", after studying and reporting to the provincial people's government for approval, the reply is as follows:

1. We agree to the adjustment plan of township division in Zhijiang Dong Autonomous County.

2. Yanqiao Township and nanmuping Township were agreed to withdraw the township and build a town. Yanqiao town governs 15 villages with a total area of 88.54 square kilometers and a total population of 18700, and the town people's government is stationed in Yanqiao (the former residence of Yanqiao Township People's Government); nanmuping town governs 13 villages with a total area of 93.9 square kilometers and a total population of 15200, and the Town People's government is stationed in nanmuping (the former residence of nanmuping Township People's Government).

As of 2017, the town (township) has a total administrative area of 94 square kilometers and a permanent population of 11288.
