Yanqiao town

Yanqiao Town, a town under the jurisdiction of Zhijiang Dong Autonomous County in Hunan Province, is located in the southeast of Zhijiang county. It is named after a stone bridge in the market town. Yanqiao town has a total area of 90.13 square kilometers (2017) and a total population of 22000 (2017). By 2020, Yanqiao town has 1 community, 10 villages, and the town people's government is stationed in Yanqiao community (the former Yanqiao Township People's Government).

Evolution of organizational system

In 1949, Yanqiao Township belonged to the Second District of Zhijiang County; in 1956, it belonged to Yanqiao township; in 1958, it belonged to Yanqiao commune.

In 1978, Zhijiang county set up 27 rural people's communes and 1 Chengguan Town People's commune. At this time, Yanqiao was one of the communes.

In March 1984, Yanqiao commune was changed into Yanqiao township.

In 2015, the township administrative division of Hunan Province was greatly adjusted. In this big adjustment, Yanqiao township was changed into Yanqiao town. The reply of the Provincial Department of civil affairs is as follows:

1. We agree to the adjustment plan of township division in Zhijiang Dong Autonomous County.

2. Yanqiao Township and nanmuping Township were agreed to withdraw the township and build a town. Yanqiao town governs 15 villages with a total area of 88.54 square kilometers and a total population of 18700, and the town people's government is stationed in Yanqiao (the former residence of Yanqiao Township People's Government); nanmuping town governs 13 villages with a total area of 93.9 square kilometers and a total population of 15200, and the Town People's government is stationed in nanmuping (the former residence of nanmuping Township People's Government).

By 2020, Yanqiao town has jurisdiction over Yanqiao community, huaihuayuan village, taibanqiu village, shuilutian village, Shibanxi village, Taoshui village, limuqiao village, guojiajie village, sanduxi village, Huangliao village and xungongpo village. There are 1 community and 10 administrative villages in total.
