Shangpuxi Yao nationality township

Shangpuxi Yao township is located in the south of Chenxi County, bounded by xiaohenglong township of Xupu County and haojiping Yao township of Huaihua City in the East.

It is adjacent to Ding's hometown in Huaihua City in the south, longtou'an Township in the West and luozishan Yao Township in the north. Township government is located in shangpuxi village, 89 kilometers away from the county. The total area is 63.45 square kilometers (2017), including 6420 mu of cultivated land (5640 mu of paddy field and 780 mu of dry land), 71127 mu of mountainous area, and the forest coverage rate is 76.2%.

Historical evolution

Before liberation, it belonged to Yonghe township of Chenxi County. In 1953, it was set up in Puxi township. In 1956, Dangfeng, wubaotian and liuwuchang were merged. In September 1958, it became a rocket commune. In June 1961, shangpuxi commune was rebuilt. Shangpuxi township was restored in 1984. On October 16, 1989, with the approval of the provincial people's government, shangpuxi township was abolished and shangpuxi Yao township was established.

The township is located in the mountainous area with inconvenient transportation. Before the founding of the people's Republic of China, there were only three stone roads leading to neighboring towns. Before the 1970s, there was no highway. Bamboo and wood were transported from Dapu River and other places. The means of production and living were carried on the shoulders, climbing mountains and wading in. The highway from shangpuxi to longtouan was built in 1997. In 1986, the county bus was opened. Now every village is connected with a highway. There are 12 Township and village roads, with a total length of 100 km. In the township, there are 4 individual trucks, 7 passenger cars and four wheelers, and 40 tractors. The traffic conditions have been greatly improved.

economic development

Agriculture and forestry are the pillar industries of the township economy. Through vigorously developing forestry, the township actively cultivated more than 100000 pine and fir seedlings, laying a solid foundation for the comprehensive completion of the task of industrial raw material forest construction assigned by the county Party committee and government. Forestry has become the pillar industry of the whole Township and the main industry for the masses to increase production and income and get rid of poverty. There are 3 backbone ponds, 2 hydropower stations and 4434 mu of fir, pine and camphor trees planted in the Township Forest Farm. The development of township and village enterprises is slow. In 1995, with self raised funds and loans of 3 million yuan, a hydropower station with an installed capacity of 800 kilowatts was built, generating 7.2 million kilowatts of electricity annually, providing electric energy for plant operation and processing.

Yao people always attach importance to education. Mi Chunfang of Zhongpuxi village donated money to build guide Academy in 1867. During the period of the Republic of China, there were elementary schools in wubaotian and other villages. After liberation, education has developed rapidly. There are 1 junior middle school, 1 boarding center school, 11 village primary schools, 1 Township Health Center, 12 medical and health centers, and local goiter and epidemic malaria have been effectively controlled. With the continuous development of cultural undertakings, there are 1 broadcasting room, 1 theater, 1 library, more than 1200 books, 3 amateur literature and art teams and 13 sports teams in the township. Has been rated as the advanced collective of rural sports in Hunan Province.
