Historical evolution
Zhoumensi, an ancient pass, has been a must for military strategists. "State gate" means the gate of the state capital. It is said that the state capital will be established in Huangqi cave. This pass is just like the gate of the state capital. Before Ming Dynasty, there was an inspection department, which was called zhoumensi. Later, it was followed as a place name. In 1949, it belonged to three districts. Xiajiang township was set up in 1956. In 1958, it was merged with Pishi and LAN city to form Hongqi commune. In 1961, it was renamed zhoumensi commune. In 1984, it was changed to township. In 1993, it was established as a town. In 2012, it was merged by MENSI Town, Pengshi Township and Yanping Township in Yuanzhou.
