Malin Yao nationality township

Malin Yao nationality township is located in the west of Xinning County, bordering Wugang City in the East and North, Ziyuan County in the South and Chengbu County in the West. The total area is 172.23 square kilometers (2017), with 9488 mu of cultivated land, including 8413 mu of paddy field, 1075 mu of dry soil and about 80000 mu of Phyllostachys pubescens. With an average altitude of more than 900 meters, it is a Typical Alpine mountain area. Malin Yao Township governs 15 administrative villages and 126 villager groups, with a total of 13149 people (in 2017). It is a mixed area of ethnic minorities and Han nationality. Among the ethnic minorities, Yao is the most, accounting for 67% of the total population. In addition, there are five ethnic minorities, including Dong, Miao and Zhuang.

Historical evolution

Malin Yao township was formerly known as Taolin township. "Malin" is named after the bamboo forest rich in papermaking. In October 1949, after peaceful liberation, Lei Wenzao, a Yao nationality, served as the first township head. In April 1958, Yao nationality township was established.

Economic situation

Malin is rich in water energy resources, with a rainfall collection area of 230 square kilometers and a total water storage capacity of 71 million cubic meters. Malin dam reservoir, built in the 1970s, is the mother reservoir of Dazhen irrigation area, with an annual power generation of more than 36 million kwh. There are also 14 private hydropower development enterprises with an installed capacity of 22000 kW. With outstanding economic characteristics, Malin is one of the bases for the production of Phyllostachys pubescens and bamboo shoots and for raising cattle and sheep in Xinning. The area of bamboo forest is vast, accounting for about one fourth of the total area of Phyllostachys pubescens in the county. Phyllostachys pubescens and its winter shoots are of good quality and are exported to Shanghai and Guangdong. Relying on the advantages of resources, Malin Yao Township vigorously develops bamboo processing enterprises. According to statistics, there are more than 20 bamboo processing and local paper manufacturing enterprises in the township, with an annual total output value of 38 million yuan and a tax of more than 1 million yuan. there are abundant agricultural products in Malin, which are green and pollution-free products. The main products are high-quality rice, Yimi, Gastrodia elata, winter bamboo shoots, Jialu, Weicai, mat, native paper, bamboo chair, etc. Malin Yao nationality township is known as "Badong Yao mountain". Badong are Huangya cave, Zhenyuan cave, taopen cave, Shenchong cave, Huangbei cave, luorao cave, Malin cave and Dazui cave.
