Huangting town

Shaoyang County governs towns. Location: Huangting town is located in the west of Shaoyang County. Its geographical coordinates are 111 degrees east longitude and 27 degrees north latitude. It is 10 kilometers long from east to west and 30.1 kilometers wide from north to south, covering an area of 135.37 square kilometers (2017).

Historical evolution

Ming and Qing Dynasties were subordinate to Wugang governor Xi township. During the period of the Republic of China, it belonged to 8 districts of Wugang county. In 1950, it was divided into the eighth District of Shaoyang County. In 1952, it belonged to nine districts of Shaoyang County. In June 1956, Huangting Town, Jintan Township and Shuangqing Township were set up. Huangting people's commune was established in 1958. In April 1961, the people's commune was adjusted. Huangting people's commune was divided into four people's communes: Huangting, Shuangqing, Yongxing and Changle. In August 1965, Yongxing and Jinfeng communes were abolished and merged into Huangting people's commune. Yongxing commune was restored in January 1981. In June 1984, the administrative commune was separated. The communes of Huangting City, Shuangqing and Yongxing were changed into three townships. In February 1985, the townships of Huangting city were changed into Huangting town. In May 1995, Yongxing Township and Shuangqing Township were merged into Huangting town.

Huangting town has a total area of 135.37 square kilometers (in 2017), including more than 120000 mu of forest land, 41294 mu of farmland and 3200 mu of water area. The main forest resources are pine, fir and other trees, and the territory is rich in coal, manganese, gypsum and other mineral reserves. The proven coal mine reserves in sanbitian mining area are 34.55 million tons, ranking second in the province, and the gypsum mine reserves are 360 million tons.
