Baifusi town is located in the southwest of Laifeng County, at the junction of Hubei, Hunan and Chongqing. The town government is located in Baifusi, covering an area of 190.14 square kilometers (2017). It has jurisdiction over one neighborhood committee and 23 village committees: Baifusi, Xin'an, niecheping, ranjia, Shemihu, Heguang, shadaowan, shiliangzi, guanyinping, meiziao, Lanhe, liaojiaba, Baoqi, futuoluo, xincaigou, yanbazi, jingzhubao, Kedong, anjiapu, mucheba, dongtangba, appeasement, qidaohe and Gaodong.

In July 2020, the National Patriotic Health Association decided to name Baifusi town as a national health Township in the period of 2017-2019.

In the 13th year of the reign of Emperor Yongzheng of the Qing Dynasty, there were only a hundred families here. In order to strengthen the management, the chieftain set up a "hundred Chief Secretary" here, so it was called "hundred Chief Secretary". It was Maodong District in 1949, Maodong commune in 1958 and Baifusi town in June 1984. In 1996, Baifusi town covers an area of 185.9 square kilometers and has a population of 28000. Shemi Lake waving Hall

Located in Tujia Shanzhai, Hedong Township, Baifusi Town, Laifeng County, the shamihu hand waving hall was built in 1651. It is the oldest Tujia Dance Hall. Hand waving hall is a gathering place for Tujia people to sacrifice their ancestors and celebrate the harvest. Tujia ancestors were born in Zhongli mountain, Wuluo, Changyang. Bawuxiang was the earliest leader of the Tujia people. He was named Lijun and was called Ba people in ancient times. Later, Ba people moved to Shinan (now Enshi prefecture), Xiangxi (now Xiangxi Prefecture), Yushui (now Chongqing city) and other places, and a few moved to Guizhou Province. Laifeng Shemihu village is located in the mountains at the junction of Hunan, Hubei and Chongqing provinces. There are more than 600 Tujia people in 170 households in the village, and more than 90% of them are surnamed Peng. According to the old people in the village, they are all descendants of Peng Xianglong, the ancestor of Peng surname who moved here in the late Tang Dynasty. People in the village have been working as farmers for generations, and the people are simple and honest. They are not involved in gambling, but good at waving hands and dancing.

Before the war, the dance of the Cubans was called Bayu dance. Later, Bayu dance developed from fishing and hunting to agricultural production mainly focusing on Cultivation and breeding. After that, Bayu dance added some farming and animal raising movements and evolved into the later hand waving dance. Now it has become a traditional dance of the Tujia people.

There are three hand waving halls in Laifeng County, the largest and most complete of which is the shamihu hand waving hall. This hall covers an area of more than 500 square meters, is rectangular, gate shaped like a memorial arch. Between the gate and the shrine, there is a stone paved corridor with tall cypresses beside it. The walls of the shrine are made of stone. The roof is covered with herringbone and black cloth tiles. There are no carved beams, painted buildings and arched cornices. In the shrine, a statue of Duke Peng, the forefather of Tujia, and a hero of Hetian, an old official, is worshipped. The existing ancient steles were erected in the 27th year of Daoguang and the 2nd year of Tongzhi. There are thousands of years of ancient villages and hundreds of years of ancient halls. It is the birthplace of hand waving dance of Tujia in Eastern Chongqing, Western Hunan and Western Hubei. Therefore, it is known as "the hometown of hand waving" and "the first hand waving hall in China".

During the Spring Festival, the village is very busy. People are dressed in red and green. Men, women, old and young all come to the waving hall. There are lanterns and decorations on the pine trees in the hall. The masses dance around the pine trees, sing gongs and drums. They first worship the Tusi king, and then hold a Waving Dance to celebrate the harvest and wish the new year prosperous and auspicious. In Xianfeng Period of Qing Dynasty, Chen Bingjun (born in Guangnan County, Yunnan Province, Renchen Enke Jinshi in the 12th year of Daoguang, the head of the official punishment Department) described in his poem "tituwang Ci": "in the Five Dynasties, the soldiers were remnant, the copper pillars were cold, the wind of the hundred barbarians was strong, and there were many people in the ancient caves. Now, the wild temples are competing year by year, and the Paizi song is still spread in the lanes." In the Tongzhi period, Peng Shifeng wrote a poem: "in the city of Fushi (Baifusi), there is a nest of brocade, water waves beside the Tuwang palace, red lights, thousands of people, and a lingering wagging song", which proves that wagging song and dance are very popular in this area.

Mao Dong

Maodong, three kilometers from the center of the town, is located in Baifusi Town, Laifeng County. It is a natural karst cave. Youshui river flows into the cave. The cave is 220 meters long, 58 meters wide and 38 meters high. The scenery inside the cave is unique, and the scenery outside the cave is magnificent, spectacular, strange and breathtaking. There is a legend about Maodong in the Youshui River Valley: it is said that the Jade Emperor traveled to the sky above the Youshui River and was attracted by the beautiful landscape here. Lu Ban was ordered to chisel Buddha statues on the cliff of Fotan in the upper reaches of Youshui River (that is, the xianfo temple in Laifeng), so as to get through the lower reaches of the cliff, so as to protect the people from the suffering of the flood. It took chicken crowing for a long time and had to be completed that night. Luban arranged for his disciples to get through the cliff downstream, and he dug Buddha statues in the Buddha pool. When the cock crowed, Luban had finished chiseling the Buddha statue in Fotan. Only then did he realize that his apprentice was sleepy and hadn't started work yet. He didn't dig through the cliff blocking the waterway. So he used a chisel to poke a few times under the cliff to form a narrow hole. Because it was the time of maonian maoyue Maoshi, it was called "Maodong". Before leaving, Lu Ban dropped a straw sandal in Fotan and turned it into an iron boat every 20 years to dredge the downstream Maodong. Therefore, people often say, "if you want to wait for the opening of Maodong, you need to wait for the iron boat of Fotan.". The beautiful legend adds mystery to Maodong.

Characteristics of Maodong scenic spot

Maodong scenic area is characterized by dense caves, magnificent and wonderful. There are also three unique features: first, unique cave drifting; second, karst caves are scattered, with dozens of caves of different sizes in the distance of more than ten kilometers; third, several exciting drifting sections, with the highest wave of more than 6 meters. Maodong rafting, a day tour of three provinces, is full of game and thrilling. When drifting, you can enjoy the long meandering flow of Chieh Shui. Along the way, there are shoals, deep pools, strange mountains and beautiful rocks. Fairy Cave
