Qingtaiping Town, known as "ancient ginkgo town", is a big town of agricultural products with mountain characteristics in Badong County of Enshi Autonomous Prefecture. The town has 31594 people (in 2017), with a land area of 279.23 square kilometers (in 2017), 53000 mu of cultivated land and an average altitude of 1000 meters. There are undulating mountains, good vegetation, fertile land, mild climate, abundant rainfall and rich species in the territory, which has typical three-dimensional climate characteristics of mountainous areas. The beautiful Qingjiang River embraces half of the rivers and mountains, and the charming scenery is a natural paradise hard to find.

Historical evolution

Before 1957, it was Taiping District (seven districts) in Qing Dynasty, with jurisdiction over 17 townships. Taiping commune of Qing Dynasty was established in 1958, with 20 administrative areas under its jurisdiction. In 1961, it was designated as Taiping District of Qing Dynasty, with jurisdiction over 17 communes. In April 1975, the district was withdrawn and the commune was merged. The commune was divided into qingtaiping commune (with 5 plots) and Baisha commune (with 16 brigades). In 1984, it was changed into qingtaiping District, with jurisdiction over 16 townships. In September 1988, the district was withdrawn and the township was merged, which was divided into qingtaiping town (with 8 management districts) and baishaping township (with 4 management districts).

In 1996, qingtaiping town covers an area of 192.8 square kilometers and has a population of 31000. It has jurisdiction over xuejiashan, shijiacun, dashiya, zhemushui, tantuzhuang, Baiguoyuan, Hongyan, matishui, xiangzhangping, shanshuwan, songlinwan, baijiuping, tizikou, liaoyeping, Maocaoping, wangjiacao, Gaojiacun, shizhuangping, xiacunping, daobulong, Dayantang, jinzilong, LIULANG and zhongmoping Baishaping Township covers an area of 81.3 square kilometers and has a population of 11000. It has jurisdiction over baishaping, baziyan, Jinlongshan, erlipo, tukanzi, zhuyuanping, huangtuxi, damuling, Hetaoping, siyangping, qingguoshan, qingshanwan and jiangjiawan It's an administrative village.

In the second half of 1996, baishaping township was abolished and merged into Taiping town of Qing Dynasty. In 2004, the town government was stationed in qingtaiping, with a population of 40165 and an area of 274.1 square kilometers.
