Huangpo reservoir is a large (second) type reservoir on Changshou River, a tributary of aohe river system on the left bank of Hanjiang River. It is 36 km away from Yingzhong city of Zhongxiang City. It is located at the junction of Zhangji, Changshou and Yangzi towns in the northeast of Zhongxiang City. Its northeast borders on Oule town of Yicheng city. It is a hilly area from Dahong mountain to Jianghan Plain. The reservoir has a controlled rainfall bearing area of 281 square kilometers, a total storage capacity of 125.61 million cubic meters, a designed irrigation area of 158000 mu, and a downstream population of 367000, cultivated land of 508600 Mu and a large number of industrial, agricultural, transportation and water conservancy facilities. the flood control standard of the reservoir is designed according to the flood with 100 year return period and checked according to the flood with 2000 year return period. The normal water level is 77.5m and the check flood level is 80.85m. The project consists of a dam, an open channel spillway, a low-pressure water pipeline and a hydropower station with an installed capacity of 1600kw. The dam is 970m long, 8m wide, 81.5m high and 28.7m high. The design discharge is 680 m3 / s, and the check discharge is 990 m3 / s. Huangpo reservoir is a large-scale water conservancy project with annual regulation, which is mainly for flood control and has comprehensive benefits of irrigation, power generation and breeding. Since the operation of the reservoir, the flood with peak discharge of more than 300 m3 / s has been intercepted three times, with an average of three times every five years. In 1998, when the Yangtze River Basin had a huge flood, the accumulated flood volume was 193.31 million cubic meters, which reduced the flood control pressure in the downstream area to a certain extent. The dam has directly protected the safety of Sanchang, Wuzhen, Yingzhong City, Hanjiang remote dike, Changjing railway, Sisha highway and zaodang highway in Zhongxiang City.

Development history

Due to the limitation of historical conditions when the reservoir was first built, and the aging and damage of facilities caused by years of operation, there are many serious hidden dangers to the safe operation of the reservoir. In order to eliminate hidden dangers, Huangpo reservoir reinforcement project was formally implemented in June 2001, with a total investment of 33 million yuan. It took five years before and after that. In July 2006, it was accepted for completion acceptance, and was rated as a high-quality project by Hubei Provincial Department of water resources. During the construction period, due to the strengthening of management and standardized operation, the project quality and construction environment have been fundamentally guaranteed, ranking among the top of similar projects built in the province at the same time.
