Wenxiakou reservoir is located in the northeast of Zhongxiang City. The dam blocks aohe river system, a tributary on the left bank of Hanjiang River. It has a total storage capacity of 578 million cubic meters, an effective storage capacity of 269 million cubic meters, and a rain bearing area of 595 square kilometers. It is a large-scale "two" type water conservancy project, which mainly focuses on irrigation and flood control, and also has comprehensive utilization of power generation, breeding, tourism, etc.

At 6:00 a.m. on July 20, 2016, the water level of Wenxia reservoir, the largest reservoir in Zhongxiang City, Hubei Province, has exceeded the flood limit. According to the instructions of the higher authorities, Wenxia reservoir opened three sluice chambers for flood discharge.

brief introduction

The reservoir project is composed of dam, spillway, vent bottom outlet and irrigation water conveyance tunnel. The canal project includes three main canals and nine branch canals in the south, North and middle. It undertakes the agricultural irrigation of eight Township farms, including Yangzi, Jiuli, Dongqiao, Yingzhong, Shuangqiao, Changshou, fengle and Zhangji. The designed irrigation area is 510000 mu, and the actual irrigation area is 340000 mu. The reservoir area covers 40.3 square kilometers, including 2730.5 hectares of water surface, 751.3 hectares of mountain forest and 81.5 hectares of cultivated land. There are 7 functional departments in the management office, which have jurisdiction over 17 fields (factories), sections, stations, institutes, schools and teams (including 1 agricultural administrative village). The reservoir has a total population of 1310, including 244 cadres and workers.

Since it was put into operation in 1972, the reservoir has supplied 2.5 billion cubic meters of water to the irrigation area, providing a strong guarantee for the agricultural harvest in the irrigation area. At the same time, the reservoir flood control benefits are also very significant. Since the establishment of the reservoir, the reservoir has been storing more than 100 floods of more than 200 cubic meters per second, regulating and storing 1.5 billion cubic meters of flood, which not only directly ensures the safety of 30000 mu of farmland and 25000 people on both sides of the aohe River, but also reduces the flood control pressure of 450000 people and 760000 mu of arable land in the lower reaches, Yingzhong town of Zhongxiang City and even the remote embankment of Hanjiang River.

Business project

Wenxiakou reservoir management office has implemented independent accounting since 1983, and now its business projects include: power generation, pure water production, high-quality rice processing, stone processing and other industrial enterprises, agricultural water supply, forestry, fishing, animal husbandry, fruit planting and other business projects, tourism, commerce, catering, accommodation, transportation and other tertiary industries. In 2006, the GDP of the whole region was 19.2193 million yuan, and the profits and taxes were 2.5463 million yuan.

Wenxiakou reservoir is one of the main scenic spots in Zhongxiang City. It is rich in human resources, unique in landscape resources, and has broad prospects for tourism development. In recent years, through self financing and introducing construction funds of more than 30 million yuan, we have focused on the construction of infrastructure, amusement facilities and reception service facilities. There are more than 10 hotels, restaurants and villas, more than 30 large and small cruise ships and 110 rafting rubber boats. At present, it has developed a number of tourism projects, such as rafting, water recreation, lake tour, Island Leisure and sightseeing, mountaineering, fishing and so on. With fresh air, beautiful environment, pleasant climate and convenient transportation, the scenic spot is an ideal place for tourism, leisure, conference and training. In October 2006, the scenic spot was named national water conservancy tourism scenic spot by the Ministry of water resources.
