Wobei town

Wobei town is a town under the jurisdiction of Luyi County in Henan Province, known as the "north gate of Luyi County". It is located in the north of Luyi County, adjacent to Niuji town of Bozhou City in Anhui Province in the East, Luyi County Industrial Agglomeration Area in the west, Taiqing town in the South, Jiatan Township and Mapu town in the north, Wohe River in the South and Huiji River in the north, with an area of 21 square kilometers and 20157 mu of cultivated land.

Historical evolution

Laozhuang commune was established in 1975 (including the meaning of commemorating Laozi and Zhuangzi). It was changed to township in 1983 and changed to Wobei town in 1994.

Wobei town is located 2km north of Luyi County, across the Wohe River from Luyi County. It is known as "the north gate of Luyi County", with 31838 people (in 2017), covering a total area of 45.73 square kilometers (in 2017). There are Yongdeng expressway, Shangshen road and Luzhe road running through the territory. In the west, there is Huihe River, in the south, Huiji River in the north, climbing canal in the East, Jingjiu line in the East and Longhai line in the north.

ginkgo tree

On the Bank of Huiji River, Sunying administrative village, Wobei Town, there is a huge ancient ginkgo tree, which has a history of more than 2000 years. Ginkgo tree, commonly known as "white fruit tree", also known as "Gongsun tree". The tree has a chest circumference of 7 meters, a height of 24.9 meters and a crown width of 24 meters. Its trunk is straight and its crown is round. It blooms and bears fruit every year. The ginkgo tree is the largest tree in the eastern Henan Plain, so it is called "the king of trees in Eastern Henan". It has been unanimously rated as "panda of plant kingdom" and "living fossil" by scientists. The State Forestry Department, the State Department of ancient tree research, Shandong Ginkgo biloba Research Institute and other units have conducted scientific research and demonstration on this tree for many times, and they all agree that the height, crown and age of this tree are rare in China.
