Shengwan Town, belonging to Xichuan County, Nanyang City, Henan Province, is located in the southwest border of Xichuan County, the junction of Henan and Hubei, and the South Bank of Danjiangkou Reservoir upstream of the Middle Route Project of South to north water diversion. The main rivers are Danjiang River and its tributaries Qiaoyu River, Huangshui River, huanglongquan River, Yuguan River, etc., which belong to the Hanjiang River Basin of the Yangtze River Basin.

Evolution of villages and towns

Shengwan town has a long history. In the new era, human beings have been living here. According to county records, shengwan Town, formerly known as SongWan commune, was the Southern District of Xichuan in the first year of Xuantong in the Qing Dynasty. After the liberation of the Republic of China, the SongWan district government was established in 1948 and became the Fifth District of Xichuan. In 1938, the CPC Xichuan District Committee established the first rural Party branch in SongWan county.

In 1958, SongWan and Tianchuan townships were established. In August of the same year, SongWan, Tianchuan, Mawan and Xinghua people's communes were established.

In 1961, the SongWan district government was restored.

In 1969, SongWan people's commune was replaced by SongWan people's commune. In July of the same year, due to the rising water level of Danjiang Reservoir, SongWan commune moved to shengwan village, 4 km southwest of SongWan village,. In 1982, according to Yufa Document No. 28, SongWan people's commune was renamed shengwan people's commune.

SongWan peasant uprising

In 1941, underground CPC members Zhou Shangjie, Huang zhengxia, Ma Pingping and others launched the Anti Japanese national salvation movement in SongWan. In order to destroy the Anti Japanese national salvation movement, Kuomintang reactionaries successively killed CPC members Yao binglian, Ma Shiyan, Ma Qingyan and progressive teacher Liang Ziqiang. It aroused the indignation of the people. On November 19 (the first day of October of the lunar calendar), thousands of peasants held an uprising with rifles, muskets, knives and spears. By Xichuan, Neixiang and other county militia armed repression. After the failure of the uprising, more than 20 Communists and progressives, including Hu Zhipan, Huang Tongshu, Shi Taihua, Liu Xinghan, Zhang Yujie, Ou Zhende, Chai Yongting, Zhang Jinfu, Yang Zizhen, Li Zengfu, were killed by the reactionaries.

Decades ago, at the beginning of the construction of Danjiangkou reservoir, SongWan street, the original market town of shengwan Town, and a large area of fertile farmland were inundated. A large number of shengwan people responded to the call of the state to leave their hometown and support the Qinghai Plateau, immigrated to Dachaihu in Zhongxiang, Hubei Province, and Goulin town in Dengzhou city. Many people who lost their land and homes chose to join their relatives and friends in Dengzhou. Fifty years later, with the construction of the middle route of the south to North Water Diversion Project, 21000 shengwan people below the water level of the reservoir area need to be relocated again, and the fertile land is flooded again. In memory of the immigrants, a monument was built in Yuguan village, shengwan Town, engraved with the names of all the immigrants. The resettlement is mainly located in the lower part of the province.
