Xiyan town

Xiyan Town, belonging to Gaoyang County, Baoding City, Hebei Province, is located 12.8 kilometers southeast of Gaoyang County, bordering pangkou town in the East, Jinhua street across the river in the west, pangjiazuo Township in the South and xiaowangguozhuang town in the north. The total area of the jurisdiction is 71.97 square kilometers, and the total registered residence population is 50768 (2018).

The area under the jurisdiction of Xiyan town belonged to Gaoyang and Lixian respectively in Ming and Qing Dynasties. In 1984, it was changed into Xiyan town and Zhaobao township. In 1996, after the merger of township and town, Zhaobao township was under the jurisdiction of Xiyan town. As of October 2019, Xiyan town has jurisdiction over 26 administrative villages. The town government is located in Xiyan village. The main cultural relics include the former site of buliufa technical school and the cemetery of Gaoli movement martyrs.

Historical evolution

In the Ming and Qing Dynasties, the areas under the jurisdiction of Xiyan town belonged to Gaoyang folk music society, Zaicheng society and Yutian society and Xukou society in Lixian County.

During the period of the Republic of China, they lived separately in Gaoyang and Lixian.

In 1938, a democratic government was established.

In 1958, when it became a commune, it was under the jurisdiction of Xiyan commune and Chengguan commune.

In 1961, nanzhaobao commune was separated from Chengguan commune, and Xiyan commune was divided into biandukou commune and pangjiazuo commune.

In 1984, it was changed into Xiyan town and Zhaobao township.

In 1996, after the merger of township and town, Zhaobao township was under the jurisdiction of Xiyan town.

The site of buliufa technical school

The former site of buliufa polytechnic school is located in the southeast of buliucun, Xiyan Town, Gaoyang County. It was founded in August 1917 by Li Shizeng, one of the initiators of the work study movement in France, and Duan Zijun, a member of the old alliance. The former site of buliufa technical school faces south. The gate is a rare building with Gothic style and traditional Chinese characteristics in northern rural areas. There are 41 3 rows of bungalows in the school, and there are 2 rows of bungalows. The front row is the gate, the kitchen and the internship factory, and the back row is the office and dormitory. Cai Hesen's former residence, school classrooms and offices have preserved their original historical appearance. The western style of architecture is unique in northern China.

On May 25, 2006, the former site of buliufa technical school was announced as the Sixth Batch of national key cultural relics protection units by the State Council of the people's Republic of China.

Gaoli movement martyrs cemetery, located in Beixinzhuang village, Xiyan Town, Gaoyang County, is an important patriotic education base in Gaoyang town and a key martyrs memorial building protection unit in Hebei Province.

Gaoli movement took place in August 1932. It was an armed struggle against the reactionary rule of the Kuomintang by the peasants in Gaoyang and Lixian of Baoding under the direct leadership of the Hebei provincial Party committee and Baoding special committee.
