Dongshu town

Dongshu town is located in the west of Ningyang County, adjacent to Heshan Township and Fushan town in the north, Yanzhou District in the south, Wenshang County in the west, Ningyang town and sidian town in the East. With flat terrain and rich groundwater resources, it is an important grain production area and silkworm production base in the county.

In July 2019, Dongshu town was selected into the list of national strong agricultural towns in 2019.

Shu was the place where the famous officials of the Western Han Dynasty "Ningyi Ershu" (i.e. Shuguang, Shushou) became officials and retired. In Qing Dynasty, it was Dongzhang society and XiMao society. After the Republic of China, it was the fourth district. In 1955, it was divided into eastern and western regions. In 1958, it was called Dongshu and Xishu communes. Dongshu district was established in 1983, and Dongshu town was established in May 1985. In February 2001, towns were merged, and the former Xishu town was merged into Dongshu town.

History and culture

Dongshu has a long history and rich cultural heritage. It is the hometown of Liangshu in Han Dynasty. Shuguang, named zhongweng, was born in Lanling of Donghai in the Western Han Dynasty. When he was young, he moved to Ningyi (now Ningyang County) with his ancestors. Shushou is the son of Shuguang brothers, that is, his nephew. In the period of Emperor Xuan (73-49 BC), Shuguang and Shushou were erudite and knowledgeable. They were good at studying Confucian classics such as the book of songs, Shangshu and the Analects of Confucius. They were granted the titles of Taizi Taifu and Taizi Jialing respectively, and were known as "Ningyi Ershu" in history. In the early years of the Yuan Dynasty (48 BC), Shu Guang and Shu were judged by the situation and decided to retire bravely. He dismissed his official post on the grounds of old age and infirmity and returned to his hometown. He used his gold and silver to run private schools and cultivated a large number of literati for his hometown. Some people advised him to buy a lot of good land and luxury houses for his descendants. Shu Guang replied, "if you are wise and rich, you will lose your ambition; if you are foolish and rich, you will benefit your faults." After the death of Er Shu, the Marquis of Ning named his hometown "Dong Shu" and "Xi Shu" respectively in memory of the two sages of Ning Yi. 300 years later, when Tao Qian passed by Ningyi, he once wrote "Yong Er Shu": "when the elephant turns four, the successful one will go.
