Xiagang town is located in the northeast of Tai'an City. It is adjacent to Zhangqiu district and Licheng District of Jinan City in the north, Laiwu City in the East, Huangqian town in the West and Zhuyang town in the south, covering an area of 155 square kilometers. The town office is located in Xiagang village, 22.5km away from Taicheng. Taiming, Xiajin and Gangying highways run through the whole township. It is 50 kilometers away from Jinan International Airport, 30 kilometers away from Taishan railway station, Beijing Fuzhou Expressway and Beijing Shanghai Expressway, and 300 kilometers away from Qingdao port. Taiming Road, a provincial highway, has convenient transportation.

It is said that this place was a water area in ancient times. There were two ports, Shanggang and Xiagang. Xiang Jing, in 1912, is the place of Xiasuo in Tai'an County. In 1928, it belonged to the fourth district. In 1941, it belonged to Zhushan district. In 1944, it belonged to the Fifth District. In 1946, it returned to the fourth district. In 1949, it belonged to the 13th district. Xiagang commune was established in 1958. In 1984, it was the Hong Kong office. In 1985, it was changed to Xiagang township. The township is named after the village where the organ is located. With a total area of 155 square kilometers, the town governs four administrative districts, 34 administrative villages, one neighborhood committee, 182 natural villages and 532 residential areas, with a total population of 42000. Xiagang township is a rocky mountainous area in the north. There are more than 200 mountains and valleys in the area. The highest altitude is 915 meters, and the average altitude is 700 meters.
