Xiazao town

Xiazao Town, subordinate to Wan'an County, Ji'an City, Jiangxi Province, is located in the southwest of Wan'an county. It is the intersection of four counties and five townships of Ji'an and Ganzhou. It borders shaping town in the East, TanQian Township in the southeast, Shasha town of Ganxian District in the south, Taiping Township of Nankang District in the northwest and Jinshi township of Suichuan County in the north, with a total area of 106 square kilometers. It is 54 kilometers away from the county seat. Xiazao town governs xiazao, Baiyan, shangzao, Liuyuan, Hengjiang, Huangzhu six administrative villages and a community, a total of 90 villager groups. In late 2018, the town registered residence in Xia Zao town was 15 thousand and 700.

Historical evolution

In 1949, it was called Baiyan township; in 1958, Baiyan commune was established; in 1983, Baiyan commune was changed into Baiyan township.

In April 1998, Baiyan township was renamed xiazao township; in August, it was changed from township to town.

History and culture

The origin of place names

Xiazao town got its name from xiazao, where it was located. According to the records of Wan'an county annals, it was xiazao village with 27 capitals in Longquan Township in the Qing Dynasty, which was later simplified as xiazao village. In 1998, the resident of Baiyan township government moved to xiazao and was renamed xiazao township.

Intangible cultural heritage

GuZi lantern is a provincial intangible cultural heritage in Jiangxi Province. It originated from Baiyan Township and is popular with the masses. It is one of the lantern colors with unique style. It is said that a kind of "cucumber disease" once prevailed in Wan'an, and the people were helpless. During the Spring Festival of that year, they danced with grass and put the words "peace in the world" to pray for the good luck of the new year. This year, as expected, the "cucumber essence" was expelled. It was peaceful, so it was named "Taiping lamp". "Wan'an county annals" records that "on the 15th night of the Lantern Festival, people playing lantern are very busy.". Baiyan artists combined with the characteristics of mountainous areas, based on "Taiping lantern", absorbed the advantages of "dragon lantern" and "carp lantern", and created this unique lantern. Because this kind of lantern is divided into a single share, it is named "GuZi lantern".

Honorary title

In 2014, xiazao town won the third prize of class II Township in comprehensive evaluation of scientific development of Wan'an county and the second prize of beautiful rural construction of the whole county.

In 2015, xiazao town won the advanced title of Ji'an Municipal civilized unit.
