Xiaotian Township

Xiaotian Township, subordinate to Ningdu County, Ganzhou City, Jiangxi Province, is located in the north of Ningdu County, adjacent to Nanfeng County and Guangchang county in the East, Luokou town in the south, Dongshao Township in the west, Yihuang County and Le'an County in the north. It is the junction of five counties, covering a total area of 228.86 square kilometers. It governs one community, eight administrative villages, 81 village groups and 111 natural villages. In late 2018, Xiao Tian had a registered residence population of 10 thousand and 600.

By the end of 2018, Xiaotian Township had 4 industrial enterprises and 5 comprehensive stores or supermarkets with a business area of more than 50 square meters.

Historical evolution

On the eve of liberation, Xiaotian was originally a township under the jurisdiction of Luokou district.

After liberation, Xiaotian township government was established, which belonged to Luokou district government; in 1951, it belonged to the Tenth District (Wucun); in the spring of 1952, mutual aid group was established; in the winter of 1953, senior commune was established, all under the jurisdiction of the Tenth District; in August 1955, Xiaotian, Daiyuan, Langji and Baishu were merged into Township, which belonged to Luokou district; in 1958, it was changed into brigade, which belonged to Wucun commune; in 1968, Wucun commune moved from Wucun village to Xiaotian, and became a village Li Xiaotian commune.

In June 1984, Xiaotian commune was renamed Xiaotian township.

As of October 2019, Xiaotian township has one community and eight administrative villages: Ganjiangyuan community, Xiaotian village, Wucun village, Xiaoyin village, Daiyuan village, langyuan village, meijiashan village, Baishu village and Langji village. Xiaotian Township People's government is located in Xiaotian market, 78 kilometers away from Ningdu county.

Xiaotian township is located in the northernmost of Ningdu County, 70 kilometers away from Ningdu county and 232 kilometers away from Ganzhou. Xiaotian township is adjacent to Nanfeng County and Guangchang county of Fuzhou City in the East, Luokou town of Ningdu County in the south, Dongshao township of Ningdu County in the west, Yihuang County and Le'an County of Fuzhou City in the north. It is the junction of the five counties. The total area is 228.86 square kilometers.

The southern part of Xiaotian township is hilly land, and the eastern and western parts are mountainous areas, with an altitude of more than 600 meters. The highest peak is Dalong mountain in the north, with an altitude of 1252 meters. The main peak of wangpizhang in Langji is 1266.8 meters.

Xiaotian township is the birthplace of Meijiang River in Ningdu county. Xiaotian river flows from north to south to Luokou.

The main forestry products in Xiaotian are oleoresin, bamboo shoots, Lentinus edodes, Russula edodes and Indocalamus leaves. It is the township with the largest per capita grain production in the county. Other crops include sweet potato, with an annual output value of about 440000 kg. In 2005, the township party committee and government actively responded to the call of the county Party committee and government and took various measures to guide farmers to develop various high-quality industries. The township promoted the planting of 3000 mu of high-quality rice and the processing of 2000 mu of sweet potato. The main economic crops are edible fungi development and traditional Chinese medicine cultivation.

From 1998 to 2003, Xiaotian Township successively completed the construction projects of cement roads with a north-south direction of 3 km, centering around Xuzhen Town, from Xiaotian to Wucun, and from Wucun to Luokou Yuanbu.

At the end of 2008, the road from Xiaotian township to Ningdu County hardened. It took only an hour to travel from Ningdu to Xiaotian, which opened up the traffic bottleneck restricting the development of Xiaotian. Eight administrative villages in Xiaotian township have been connected with roads, and the reconstruction projects of cement roads in Xiaotian village, Baishu, langyuan, Daiyuan village, Xiaoyin and meijiashan have been completed.

History and culture

Cultural details

Xiao Tian has a profound cultural heritage. This is the first stop for Hakka ancestors to move southward. It is the birthplace of Hakka surnames such as Lai, Liao, Guan and Xiao. It is also the place where many Hakka descendants seek their roots. The 2013 Chinese Hakka Lai clan meeting will be held in Xiaotian Meijia mountain. There are more than 10 county-level key cultural relics protection units in Xiaotian, including the provincial key cultural relics protection units in Langji village, the "chastity archway" in Qianlong period of Qing Dynasty, the "Shangyi archway" in Daiyuan village and the "Lai's ancestral hall" in meijiashan village. Among them, Daiyuan village is the most prominent. There are many ancient buildings in the village, which are known as the "nine wells and eighteen Alleys".

The origin of place names

According to the local elderly and inscriptions in ancient tombs, during the first month of the Yuan Dynasty, Xiao opened up and built a village here, which was named Xiaotian because of Xiao's surname.
