Bei'anzhuang township is located in the southeast of Wu'an city, Handan City, Hebei Province, 8 kilometers away from the urban area. The township government is located in beianzhuang village. Evolution of organizational system

Beianzhuang township was established in 1953. It belonged to Boyan Shuguang commune in 1958. Beianzhuang commune was established in 1961. It was rebuilt in 1984. In 1997, it covered an area of 50 square kilometers and had a population of 15000.

Architectural features

Most of these houses were built in the period of the Republic of China. The doors, windows and screen walls were exquisitely carved, and a large number of brick carvings reflecting the way of the owners and similar family instructions were retained. Most of the dwellings retain rich content of brick carvings. The most common ones are plaques, mostly two or three characters. Some of the houses have plaques to teach their families "filial piety", "faithfulness", "perseverance, perseverance, do not forget poverty", "diligence, frugality" and so on.

Then there are couplets written on the gatehouse or porch pillars, such as the couplets kept in Qiao Zhongjing's house, "it's in me to oppose self-cultivation and learn from sages, which is reputed by others. There's nothing wrong with heaven and earth." there are also couplets that teach family members and friends to love, such as "among brothers, the family is upright, the way is eternal, and the future generations are peaceful and prosperous.".

The most valuable one is the "family motto" in the yingmenzhaobi of Yang Gongchen's house in Tonghui village of the township, which is 78 words in full and carved out of bricks. It earnestly teaches future generations to be kind.

The brick carvings in these dwellings reflect the local tradition of emphasizing education and are of great cultural and artistic value. In addition, these dwellings are exquisitely decorated. Some of the gatehouses are carved as high as 6 meters. What's more, many dwellings have the date of construction on the doorticket, roof or plaque, which provides clear evidence for the study of these buildings.
