It is named after Tanxi. Before the founding of the people's Republic of China, it belonged to Tanxi Township, the second district. It was Tanxi District in 1950, changed to Tanxi commune in 1958, merged into Huaqiao Township in 1968, changed to township in 1984, and changed to town in 1996. In 1997, with an area of 115 square kilometers and a population of 17000, it has jurisdiction over 13 administrative villages including Tanxi, Yangmen, Huaqiao, Xiawan, Ancheng, Sanfang, Maji, Hujia, Dongshan, Gantang, Shalong, Fucun and Sanxing.
Geography
Tanxi town is located in the southwest of Yongxiu, bordering Anyi county and Yunshan mountain in the northwest. The town covers an area of 115 square kilometers, with 27000 mu of cultivated land (including 24000 mu of paddy field), 5000 mu of water surface and 79000 mu of mountain forest. The population is 16000. Tanxi is a high-yield area of grain and cotton. Peanut, soybean, watermelon and sugarcane are the main economic crops. In recent years, traditional Chinese medicine, flowers, seedlings, Ginkgo biloba and other characteristic agriculture have sprung up. Tanxi mountain is rich in forest resources, rich in fir, pine, citrus, ginkgo, wild vegetables, etc. the latest introduction of Pinus elliottii, Pinus americana and other tree species, afforestation of 1500 mu. Tanxi has excellent irrigation conditions. There is a medium-sized reservoir Yunshan reservoir and a small reservoir Ancheng reservoir, with crisscross irrigation channels. Rich in aquatic products, rich in bighead carp, crucian carp, catfish, grass carp, etc., with an annual output of 500000 Jin.
