Maao Town, subordinate to Xiushui County, Jiujiang City, Jiangxi Province, has 19 administrative villages and 1 neighborhood committee. It has been rated as a comprehensive advanced unit and "Liuhao Township Party committee" by the county Party committee and the county government.

Ma'ao town is located in the middle of Xiushui County, covering an area of 154 square kilometers, with a total population of 42500 and an agricultural population of 38500. There are 36 party branches, 868 party members and 23000 mu of cultivated land, including 13800 mu of paddy fields. There are abundant water resources and mineral resources (uranium, alum, iron, stone coal) in the area; scale enterprises include Dongjin power station, Tanggang power station, nuclear industry 724 mine; agricultural leading industries include sericulture, medicinal materials, cotton and pig breeding. There are two type I reservoirs (Guantang and Hedong) and seven small type II reservoirs (Fengshou, shaping, hongleng, yanjiachong, Huxing, Xiakou and pingxia). Kelong line, a provincial road, is 21 kilometers across the border.

On July 24, 2019, ma'ao town was selected into the list of national strong agricultural towns in 2019.

General situation

Ma'ao town is located in the hinterland of Xiushui County, Jiujiang City, Jiangxi Province, 37 kilometers away from the county seat, reaching Xigang town in the East, Chengfang scenic spot in the south, Dachun Township in the north and Zajin town in the West. It is a hilly area, the terrain inclines from northwest to Southeast, the annual average temperature is 16.5 ℃, and the frost free period is about 245 days. The total area of the town is 154 square kilometers. Kelong line second-class highway passes through the town. The town government is 37 kilometers away from the county, which is a 30 minute economic circle of the county. Ma'ao town is the seat of the former ma'ao District Committee and government of Xiushui county. It has 19 administrative villages, 1 neighborhood committee and 254 villager groups, with a population of 8900 households and 42500 people, including 38500 agricultural population and 4000 urban population. Ma'ao town is a big water resource town. It is rich in bauxite, stone coal, shale, limestone, gold, uranium and other mineral resources. At present, there are 26 three-dimensional lime kilns with an annual output of 40000 tons of finished products, and the production history has been more than 100 years. There are three shale brick production enterprises with an investment of more than 10 million yuan, which are the main producing areas of Xiushui shale brick. At present, there are 14 small and medium-sized reservoirs. It is rich in shale gas energy and is currently under exploration. Ma'ao is an important agricultural town in Xiushui. The town has 27000 mu of arable land, including 19000 mu of paddy field and 8000 mu of dry land. The mountainous area accounts for more than 58% of the total area, with a forest area of 148000 mu, including 59000 mu of public welfare forest and 70000 mu of commercial forest, with a live stock of 250000 cubic meters. Seven industries, including sericulture, tea, chrysanthemum, cotton, plantain, pig and vegetable, have been cultivated and five professional cooperatives have been established. At present, there are 20000 mu of high-quality rice, 3000 mu of sericulture, 2000 mu of tea, 1500 mu of chrysanthemum, 2000 mu of cotton, 2000 mu of Cheqianzi, and more than 40000 pigs. Ma'ao town is a strong economic town in Xiushui. Two state-owned enterprises, Dongjin power plant and 724 mine, have settled in ma'ao, and now there are seven enterprises above designated size. With convenient transportation, the newly built Kelong second-class highway has 20 kilometers in the territory, which can directly reach the county and connect with Wuji expressway. All 19 administrative villages in the territory are connected with cement roads. In 2012, the per capita income of farmers was 2100 yuan, seven percentage points higher than 1961 yuan of the county's per capita income, and the agricultural savings deposits of the town exceeded 300 million yuan.
